Engineer - Structural

Senior Designer – Civil/Structural

 

CV Engineering is seeking a Civil/Structural Designer for our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office.

The Senior Designer shall be responsible for performing the design work Independently based on project requirements and engineering designs.  A self-starter, attention to detail, willingness to learn, and diligent to complete the assignments on time.  This position requires CAD knowledge and experience.

 

The successful candidate shall have the following specific responsibilities:

 

Conceptualize and prepare plans, layouts, sections, details, and bills of materials to accurately convey construction or fabrication requirements.

Develop designs consistent with good practices, client requirements, and conformance to codes and standards, and coordinate with engineers and other designers for carrying out the design work, and to meet the schedules of the deliverables.

Review project scope and vendor information and assist in design planning.

Coordinate with associates in other departments as required.

Identify and resolve any potential conflicts, problems, changes or deviations in designs.

Perform self-review of all the design deliverables prepared for accuracy and constructability.

Adherence to the department’s design standards and assist others to ensure compliance in the designs and updating them as required.

Able to communicate clearing and articulately, verbally and in writing.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

·         Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in civil and structural designs of buildings and equipment foundations (spread, mat, and pile); structural steel for mill buildings, auxiliary buildings, equipment support structures, and operating platforms, masonry buildings; site layouts, road and railroad layouts and designs; storm drainage/retainage, erosion and sediment control plans.

·         Experience with heavy industrial facilities.

·         Knowledge and experience of REVIT is required.  Experience with CIVIL 3D is a plus.  

·         Associate degree in Civil Engineering or Related Field is preferred.

·         Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Senior Designer – Piping

CV Engineering is seeking a Senior Piping Designer for our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office. The candidate must have experience in heavy industrial facility projects. Design experience in the steel industry is a plus.

 

The successful candidate shall have the following specific responsibilities:

 

·         Must be capable of generating piping drawings from vendor drawings, flow diagrams and P&ID’s.

·         Capable of utilizing REVIT software to prepare piping layouts and detail drawings with sufficient detail for a contractor to install. 

·         Must be familiar with piping specifications and codes.

·         Able to complete project documents in a timely matter to meet project schedules.

·         Capable of checking drawings based on vendor information.

·         Capable of directing others in the department to delegate work required in a clear and precise manner.

·         Able to communicate with Department Manager, Project Managers, and other discipline designers to gather information required to complete the design as per client and vendor documentation.

·         Must be able to read and understand the “As-Sold” specification for the project and provide all necessary drawings required for construction.

·         Communicate with other disciplines to alleviate any interferences or design issues.

·         Make any necessary changes or revisions to drawings as required or requested by their supervisor.

·         Capable of designing pipe supports per codes and standards.

·         Must be able to follow directions and company standards and procedures.

·         Willing to perform any duties as required by the Department Manager.

·         Able to convey to their Department Manager any project requirements, status of project and schedule as requested.

·         Capable of clarifying any field issues that may come up pertaining to the drawings and design.

·         Capable of working on their own or as part of a team.

REQUIREMENTS:

 

·         Must have a 2-year technical degree from an accredited college or technical school.

·         Proficient in REVIT is required, Experience in PLANT 3D design software is a plus. 

·         Minimum 10 years experience in piping design in heavy industrial facilities.

·         Experience in Microsoft Office is required.

·         HVAC experience is a plus

·         Must be familiar with all piping codes and construction techniques.

Engineer – Electrical                                                                                                              

CV Engineering is seeking an Electrical Engineer for our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office.  The

Engineer shall provide engineering design and details and shall work in conjunction with Project Managers and other team members for successful completion of electrical design and engineering for commercial and industrial projects.

 

The successful candidate shall have the following specific responsibilities:

 

·         Perform analysis and calculations as required for design and engineering of power distribution, lighting, grounding, etc., in accordance with the project requirements and applicable codes and standards.

·         Perform arc flash, short circuit and coordination studies, as required.

·         Provide technical and design guidance to the designers in preparation of construction deliverables.

·         Assist Electrical Department Manager in preparation of procurement and construction specifications, and bid evaluation.

·         Review project scope and vendor information.  Assist Department Manager to establish design criteria and guidelines.

·         Coordinate with other departments, as required.

·         Coordinate with vendors, as required.

·         Identify and resolve any potential conflicts, problems, changes or deviations in designs and engineering.

·         Perform site visits, as required.

·         Review, monitor, and approve quality of the work performed by the designers of the department.

·         Review department design standards and assist Department Manager to ensure compliance within the department and updating them as required.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

·         Minimum 5-10 years of experience in electrical design engineering with emphasis on power distribution, substations, arc flash/short circuit coordination studies, conduit, tray sizing, cable sizing, and help designers to route the raceways, controls, lighting, grounding, and cable and conduit schedules. 

·         Experience should include heavy industrial facilities. 

·         Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. 

·         P.E. preferred. 

·         Experience with E-tap. 

·         Experience with AutoCAD or REVIT.  

·         Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).

The successful candidate shall have the following specific responsibilities:

 

·         Utilize REVIT software to prepare 3D and 2D layout and design drawings which meet company and industry standards and codes.

·         Knowledge of Electrical design practices including drawings, specifications, codes, building materials, and construction techniques.

·         Prepares CAD electrical design drawings such as: single line diagrams; power, lighting, grounding, and other systems plans; electrical area plans; electrical equipment arrangement plans; cable tray layout plans and sections; conduit and cable schedules; motor control schematics.

·         Applies standard drafting/design principles to complete assignments.  Ensure compliance with company and client policies and applicable standards and codes such as ANSI, NEMA, NEC, IEEE, IEC, NFPA etc.

·         Makes required changes, additions, and/or revisions, as directed by immediate supervisor.

·         Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

·         Prepares typical electrical databases/spreadsheets such as: motor and electrical load lists; panel schedules; bills of materials

·         Assists the Department Manager in maintaining the project design schedule and budget.

·         Confers and coordinates with the Electrical Engineers regarding any information required for completion of the design.

·         Interface with project management and project engineers during the design, execution and startup phase of projects

·         Confers and coordinates with other disciplines to assure compliance with design requirements, company standards and procedures, industry codes and standards, and client criteria.

·         As a Senior Designer may direct, guide, and check the work of a team of CAD designers and CAD drafters on a project.

·         Minimum 2-year technical degree from an accredited program. Electrical systems / basic electricity coursework included.

·         Proficiency with REVIT is required.

·         Minimum 8-10 years relevant experience in an electrical design engineering and in industrial environment
