Tie & Operate the Rectiformers in Parallel
Ozark, Arkansas

CV Engineering prepared a feasibility study to investigate upgrading the plant’s 120VDC, 140,000A bus for their graphitizing furnaces. The existing arrangement consists of two 140,000A rectiformers powering one of two furnace-firing bays. The existing bus layout does not permit the cross connecting of the firing bays with the two rectiformer units. To increase operating flexibility, we investigated means of upgrading the bus system to allow either of the two firing bays to be connected to either of the two rectiformers or to both, allowing a maximum of 240,000A to be feed to the furnace. This necessitated a review of the existing bus arrangement and isolation switch arrangement, and the design of alternative bus arrangements. A report was prepared outlining our findings and making our recommendations.
